Follow This 2021 Spring Maintenance Checklist
Spring has finally arrived! Like many homeowners, you’ll need to make sure your home is in its best condition to welcome the season. To help you out, here’s a spring maintenance checklist that you can easily work your way through to get your home clean and ready for the season:
Deck and landscaping - Check your deck for signs of warping and water stains as well as rusty or loose nails. The stairs and railings should also be secured; any rotting boards should be replaced as well. Don’t forget to clear your landscaping of trim overgrowth and debris, and plant new additions if it’s needed.
Roof - Use a ladder to inspect your roof for damage that may be caused by the recent winter weather, such as cracked or loose shingles. If you find any issues, call in a roofing replacement professional to address them properly.
Gutters - Unclog your gutters by clearing out all leaves and debris. If you notice that your gutters are sagging, have them checked and repaired by trusted roof repair and replacement contractors. They’ll also check your gutters thoroughly and repair any minor issues like sealing holes with caulking to prevent leaking.
Windows - Opening your windows more often will naturally ventilate your home and improve air quality. Make sure to thoroughly clean and inspect them for damage as well so that they can be repaired.
HVAC system - Check your unit for any sign of damage. You may also need to change the air filters. This is especially important if you’ve used your unit throughout the winter season. Also, check your air ducts for any buildup of mold and small debris.
Attic and basement - Make sure to inspect the walls and floors for water stains, mold and leaks. Remove moisture that can potentially lead to mold issues or serious water damage. If you have a sump pump installed in your basement, make sure that it’s working properly.
